Now Be Here: Virginia Broersma #46

Feeling inspired after attending the historic event Now Be Here at Hauser Wirth & Schimmel. My goal is to feature every artist that attended, one artist a day. Considering the number of artists that showed up, this will take me two years to complete. I am looking forward to getting to know the work of each and every artist!

From Virginia Broersma:

Virginia Broersma (b. 1982) lives and works in Los Angeles. Her work uses painting to focus on how the representation of the body can influence patterns of power and control over one another in the everyday, including one’s perception of self. Recent exhibitions include Trophies at The Lodge (Hollywood, CA), Echo Location at Eastside International (Los Angeles, CA), Werewolf at Charlie James Gallery (Los Angeles, CA) and a collaborative project and exhibition with performance artist Natalie Mik at Grab Bag Studio in Long Beach. Additionally, Broersma takes on select curatorial and writing projects that relate to her interests in the studio and in 2016 was jointly selected for the Emerging Curators Program at Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions (LACE). Broersma has been the recipient of several grants including funding from the California Institute of Contemporary Arts, the Puffin Foundation and was awarded a Community Arts Assistance Program grant from the City of Chicago, IL in both 2010 and 2011. Her projects have been reviewed in CARLA, Art and Cake and Artillery Magazine.
