Now Be Here: Aline Mare #408
Feeling inspired after attending the historic event Now Be Here at Hauser Wirth & Schimmel. My goal is to feature every artist that attended, one artist a day. Considering the number of artists that showed up, this will take me two years to complete. I am looking forward to getting to know the work of each and every artist!
Your inspiration for the day- Now Be Here edition: Aline Mare
From Aline Mare:
The most recent images use the process of digital scanning as a contemporary interpretation of the 19th-century photographic process of cliché verre, literally a Greek phrase meaning “glass picture”. It refers to the process of etching an image onto a piece of smoked glass and exposing that image to a light source. I find it extremely fitting that cliché verre was one of the earliest forms of reproducing images before the birth of the camera, a kind of fusion of painting and early photography.
I am experimenting with integrating hand drawn transparent backgrounds on acetate with scanned elemental and natural objects. I have painted and scraped away the opaque surface, manipulating the façade with scratches and spills. Using the illumination of the scanning machine as an original light source, I find myself drawn to the clarity of the physical scan as the object and the effected transparency interact in the limited depth of field that the scanner creates.
